Judith Walker, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Nottinghamshire comments on the new HMCPS Inspectorate report.
"I think the inspection report of CPS Nottinghamshire is a fair report. I think it gives a realistic assessment of what the area has achieved so far and a realistic assessment of what we have got to tackle next.
"The report is telling us what we are doing well, which is the way that we handle our more complex cases in the Crown Court, but in addition the report is telling us what we need to improve on, namely the way we handle our cases in the Magistrates court.
"The way we are going to take things forward is to look with our staff at how we can improve the consistency of the work that we do.
"We need to look at our Magistrates court casework, we need to look at the quality of our decision making, and we need to look at the casework handling to ensure that we deliver an efficient and effective service on all our cases.
"We found the inspection process extremely helpful. It highlighted a number of areas where we need to do more. Those areas did not in the main come as a surprise to us. There were areas we had already identified as areas we now need to focus on next.
"All our staff, our prosecutors, our paralegals, and our administrative want to deliver a high quality service.
"We need to ensure that all our staff understand the standards that are required of them and we need ensure that we help them to deliver those standards".
