Five-year sentence for Long Eaton firearm offence

A man who brandished a replica machine gun in a residential Derbyshire street and stopped a local bus has been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing an illegal firearm.

Ian Kinney took the fake weapon onto College Street, Long Eaton, on the night of 30 November 2012. He pleaded guilty to the offence at Nottingham Crown Court, and was sentenced on 20 March.

Janine Smith, Senior District Crown Prosecutor said: "Ian Kinneys actions terrified the people on the bus and left the local community shocked.  They had no way of knowing that it was a replica firearm at the time and genuinely feared for their lives.

"The sentence handed down by the judge shows just what a serious incident this was."
