Leicestershire fatal road traffic collision driver charged

The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Leicestershire Police to charge Anastasia James with causing the deaths of Destiny James-Keeling and Megan Marchant in a road traffic collision on the M1 northbound near junction 20 at Shawell, Leicestershire in January 2014.

Janine Smith, CPS East Midlands Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, said: "The CPS has authorised Leicestershire Police to charge Anastasia James with two counts of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors. We have decided there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest."

Anastasia James was charged on Saturday 21 February and will appear before Leicester Magistrates' Court on 11 March 2015.
Criminal proceedings have now commenced and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
