Derbyshire man charged with rape

14/03/2014

A Derbyshire man has been charged with rape in relation to an incident in 2006.

Janine Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, CPS East Midlands:

"CPS East Midlands can confirm that we have authorised Derbyshire Police to charge Sean Frayne with rape.

"The evidence has been reviewed by a specialist Senior Crown Prosecutor from the CPS East Midlands rape and serious sexual offences team, who has decided that there is sufficient evidence to charge and that it is in the public interest for a prosecution to take place.

"It is important to note that proceedings are now active, and the accused is entitled to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."

Mr Frayne is due to appear at Derby Magistrates Court on Monday 31 March 2014.
