CPS East Midlands authorises charge in relation to Derby house fire

The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Derbyshire Police to charge two people in relation to the house fire in Victoria Road, Allenton, Derby that killed six children.

Richard Crowley, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor said: "The evidence has been reviewed by a Crown Advocate from the East Midlands Complex Casework Unit, who has decided that there is sufficient evidence to charge Michael Philpott and Mairead Phiplott with six counts of murder, and that it is in the public interest for a prosecution to take place.

"It is important to note that proceedings are now active. Both defendants are entitled to a fair trial, and it is important that nothing is said or reported that would prejudice that right."
