Charges authorised in relation to the death of Kayleigh Haywood

CPS East Midlands has authorised Leicestershire Police to charge a man with murder and another with sexual offences in relation to the disappearance and death of Kayleigh Haywood.

Stephen Beadmore, from Ibstock, has been charged with murder and rape. Luke Harlow has been charged with meeting a girl under 16 following grooming and two offences of sexual activity with a child.

Chief Crown Prosecutor Janine Smith said: "A file of evidence, passed to us has been reviewed by a Crown Advocate based in our Leicester office and we have concluded, in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute both defendants.

"Criminal proceedings have now commenced and the defendants have the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."

Charges were authorised on Thursday 19 November. The defendants appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court today, where the case was sent to Leicester Crown Court.
