Charges authorised for Derby sex attacks

The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Derbyshire Police to charge a Derby man with seven sexual offences in relation to separate sexual attacks in the city.

Lawrence English, from the CPS said: "On 16 March 2017, the Crown Prosecution Service received a file of evidence from Derbyshire Police relating to allegations of serious sexual offences involving Ilija High, from the Chaddesden area.

"Following a review of the evidence, Mr High, 23, was charged yesterday with seven sexual offences against three victims. He appeared at Derby Magistrates Court this morning.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Ilija High are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."

The charges in relation to each victim are:

  • Attempted rape
  • Assault by penetration; three counts of rape and one of attempted rape
  • Attempted rape

The evidence was reviewed by a senior crown prosecutor for the CPS East Midlands rape and serious sexual offences team.

The review of the evidence was carried out in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.
