Pensioner given suspended sentence for harassmant campaign

A Leicestershire pensioner has been made the subject of a suspended sentence for subjecting her neighbours to a sustained campaign of abuse and harassment, offences described by CPS District Crown Prosecutor Nigel Chapman as 'disgusting and unnecessary'.

Harassment guilty plea for pig's head

A Leicester man has today pleaded guilty to religiously aggravated harassment for leaving a pig's head at a community centre being used by a Muslim group, an offence described by Chief Crown Prosecutor Judith Walker as 'highly offensive to his victims'.

Church lead theft conspirators sentenced

Four people have been sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court for their part in a widespread conspiracy to steal lead from 20 churches across Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, a conspiracy described by CPS East Midlands Senior Crown Prosecutor Simon Rowe as the biggest of its kind ever prosecuted. Two others were sentenced for theft and handling stolen goods for related offences.

A Nottinghamshire man has pleaded guilty to stealing lead from Newstead Abbey, the former home of Lord Byron. Gurshoron Bhattie pleaded guilty to theft and converting criminal property and was sentenced to 18 months in proson at Nottingham Crown Court.

A Northamptonshire man has been sentenced to two years in prison for a scam that led 75 local children to believe they would be dancing at the closing ceremony at the Olympic Games – described by CPS East Midlands Senior Crown Prosecutor Ben Samples as 'callous and deceitful'.

Murder charge for Nottingham stabbing

The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Nottinghamshire Police to charge a Nottingham man in relation to a fatal stabbing in the centre of Nottingham on Wednesday 20 June. Marcin Cwiakalo has been charged with murder.

Six found guilty of Nottingham police station attack

Six people have today been found guilty for their part in the most serious incident in last August's disturbances – the attack on Canning Circus police station. Ten people had previously pleaded guilty to their part in the night's events, in a case described by Chief Crown Prosecutor Judith Walker as 'complex and challenging'.

Five guilty of Lincoln killing

Four people, two of them teenagers have been convicted of the murder of Shaun Rossington in Lincoln in June 2010 in an attack described by CPS Crown Advocate James Allen as ‘vicious and unprovoked’. A 17 year old girl has been convicted of manslaughter. They and a 14 year old girl have also been convicted of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Derby men convicted in shocking sex abuse case

Five men have been convicted of a string of sexual offences against young, vulnerable teenage girls and women in a case described as one of "shocking and persistent abuse" by Crown Prosecution Service lawyer Samantha Shallow. Three other men were found guilty of related offences.
