Your Local CPS

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) was set up in 1986 to prosecute criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. It is a national organisation divided into 13 Areas, of which CPS East Midlands is one.

CPS East Midlands employs 344 staff in bases across five different counties - Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

CPS East Midlands manages cases from two main offices in the region. Cases prosecuted in the courts in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire are managed from our southern office, which is in Leicester. Cases prosecuted in courts in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are managed from the northern office, which is in Nottingham.

The structure of CPS East Midlands is based on teams prosecuting local cases. Each team is led by a District Crown Prosecutor. For further information about this, please see the About Us page.

The teams prosecute cases in their local courts. Some cases are prosecuted by specialist teams and many of our business functions are managed centrally by our Area Operations Centre, which is based at the northern office.
