Ken qualified as a solicitor in 1975 and worked in the Chief Prosecuting Solicitors Office in Nottinghamshire and then Warwickshire before joining the CPS at its inception in 1986. 
In 1988 he was made Branch Crown Prosecutor and in 1996 was put in charge of the Eastern Region of West Midlands CPS which includes Coventry and Solihull. 
During his time in the West Midlands Ken started the first No Witness, No Justice Pilot.  Ken also took the lead for the pilot of the Persistent Young Offender Scheme which ensures that the small group of young offenders that commit the majority of youth crime are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Ken has experience of prosecuting in the both the Magistrates and Crown Court and was appointed as Suffolk Chief Crown Prosecutor (CCP) in June 2005.

Ken moved to Essex as CCP in August 2007 and became Deputy Chair of Essex CJB in April 2009 taking over as Chair in July 2009, succeeding the retiring Chief Constable Roger Baker in this role.

Ken is now the Chief Crown Prosecutor of the East of England Area of the CPS, which comprises Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

In addition to his work within the criminal justice system, Ken had a parallel career in the Territorial Army (TA) reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, commanding his regiment from 1999 to 2001. He was part of the (resilience) Brigade reinforcement team, supporting 143 Brigade in Shrewsbury.

Ken is married with three adult daughters. In the 2012 New Year's Honours list, Ken was awarded a CBE.
