CPS East of England authorises charge of murder after torso found in suitcase

The Crown Prosecution Service in the East of England has today authorised Cambridgeshire Police to charge 57-year-old Vitautas Jokubauskas with the murder of Ramute Butkiene.

This follows the discovery of a torso in a suitcase at an address in Peterborough on Friday afternoon (5 June 2015).

District Crown Prosecutor for East of England CPS, David Taylor, said: "We have considered the evidence presented to us by Cambridgeshire Police and in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors have made the decision that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Vitautas Jokubauskas with one count of murder. He will appear at Cambridge Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday 11 June 2015.

"May I remind all concerned that Vitautas Jokubauskas has a right to a fair trial. It is very important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings. For these reasons, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further."
