A 55-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been sent to priosn following an attack on a 22-year-old man in Lowestoft.

Gregory Cook, from Lowestoft and the 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons were sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court to five years and one-year respectively.

The pair had previosuly pleaded guilty to the assault at an earlier hearing.

Ipswich Crown Court heard how a 22-year-old man was attacked with a machete sustaining cuts to his neck, knee and hands as he tried to defend himself.

The 15-year-old had been threatening the victim and on Wednesday, August, 11, 2011 last year this came to a head when the teenager and Gregory Cook went to an address in Edgerton Road around 8.15pm the same evening.

The court heard how the victim went out into the street and was then assaulted by the 15-year-old who held him down while Gregory Cook assaulted him with the machete.

A CPS spokesman said: "This was a brutal attack. The victim had his hands up to protect him while he
was held in a strangle hold by the 15-year-old and Cook attacked him, cutting him with the machete.

"We are pleased with the outcome of this case and hope the victim can now put this ordeal behind him. The CPS remains committed to prosecuting offences of this nature through the court system."
