Essex: Sexual predator guilty of rape
11/03/2011
A sexual predator has been found guilty of rape, indecent assault and making threats to kill.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard how Peter Allwright, who has been on remand in Chelmsford Prison since his crimes came to light, had abused a girl for eight years.
Allwright, 40, from the Southend area had previously denied the offences against the girl who was just six years old when the abuse started in 2004.
The court heard how the young girl had suffered severe internal injuries as a result of the prolonged abuse, as Allwright often used implements in the course of the assaults.
Eventually she was in so much pain, she reported the abuse to a teacher and a police investigation ensued.
Allwright was convicted yesterday (March 9, 2011) of 12 counts of sexual abuse, including eight counts of rape, one count of making a threat to kill and three counts of assault by penetration. He was acquitted of two counts of soliciting murder and two counts of anal rape.
Crown Advocate Suzanne Stringer for the Crown Prosecution Service said: "This young and vulnerable victim suffered years of abuse at the hands of this man and we are very pleased that he has been convicted of the string of attacks and assaults against her. He put her through such a traumatic ordeal all for his own pleasure and sexual gratification.
"We only hope this conviction helps her move on with her life positively and we are very grateful to her for bringing this to the attention of the authorities and for assisting in the prosecution."
Allwright is due to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on April 4, 2011.
