Motorcyclist jailed for death of six year old boy

A speeding motorcyclist who knocked down and killed a six year old schoolboy and then failed to stop has been jailed.

Marek Kolton, 33, was travelling at more than double the 30 mph speed limit as he sped past Joseph Ball's school in Westcliffe as children exited the school heading home. Joseph was crossing the road with his family when he was struck by Kolton.

Today at Basildon Crown Court, Kolton was jailed for four years and eight months.

Commenting afterwards, a CPS spokesman said: "This was tragic case where the defendant drove dangerously at high speed causing a young boy to lose his life. Six year old Joseph Ball had everything to live for but his life was cut short by Mr Kolton's recklessness and total disregard for the law. Our thoughts are very much with Josephs family at this difficult time."
