East of England CPS advises police to charge Lesley Layton over Cambridgeshire deaths

Chris McCann, head of the Complex Casework Unit in CPS East of England said:

"I have advised Cambridgeshire Police to charge Lesley Paul Layton, 36, with an offence in connection with the deaths of three men in Cambridgeshire in March 2013.

"Lesley Layton is charged with conspiracy to prevent the lawful and decent burial of a dead body between 27 March 2013 and 4 April 2013. It is alleged that within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, without lawful excuse he conspired together with Gary Stretch and other persons to prevent the lawful and decent burial of the dead bodies of Kevin Lee and John Chapman.

"Lesley Layton will appear before Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 5 June 2013.

"The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors. Lesley Layton now faces very serious criminal offences and has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that nothing should be reported which could prejudice the trial."
