Karen Victory jailed for torture of three year old child
22/11/2011
Karen Victory, who carried out a four week campaign of torture against a three year old boy in her care, has today been jailed for nine years.
The 28 year old was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court after admitting abusing the child who she was looking after for a friend.
CPS Senior Crown Prosecutor Joseph Stickings commented: "This three year old boy was defenceless and vulnerable and supposed to be in Karen Victory's care. Instead, she beat him, scalded him and throttled him until he was unconscious. He had bite marks all over his body. Medical staff, so shocked by what they saw, said they'd never seen a child with such severe non-accidental injuries.
"While some of his physical injuries will heal, the emotional scars will remain with him for many years. We only hope that because he is young that, with time, he will be able to recover from the traumatic experience he was subjected to.
"For everyone involved in this case, it's been harrowing and upsetting. I would like to pay tribute to the entire prosecution team who worked extremely hard to ensure that Karen Victory will spend the next few years behind bars."
