Suffolk: Former priest admits indecent assault

A retired Suffolk priest has admitted sexual offences against children between 1990 and 1994.

John Haley Dossor, 71, from Kirton, near Felixstowe, pleaded guilty to six charges of indecent assault at a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court in September. The Crown Prosecution Service then asked the court for time to consult with the victims in the case and to decide whether the basis of plea would be acceptable.

At Ipswich Crown Court today the CPS decided to accept the previous pleas entered by Dossor and not to proceed with the remaining counts against him, after consulting with the police and victims. We concluded that the guilty pleas entered sufficiently reflected the nature of the defendants offending.

He admitted to six charges of indecent assault against two separate men who were aged between 16 and 17 and 13 and 15 at the time of the offences.

Reviewing lawyer for the CPS Nikki Miller said: "We are pleased with the positive outcome of todays hearing. Dossor has admitted a significant amount of the charges against him and we are grateful the victims in this case will not have to face a lengthy trial and relive their ordeal at the hands of this man."

Dossor will be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court at a date yet to be fixed.
