Essex: CPS authorises charge of murder
05/04/2011
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has today authorised police to charge Douglas Binet with the murder of Anthony Whitefield.
This follows the discovery of a severed arm in a lake off Greensted Road, Loughton on Tuesday, March 31, 2011; another arm was found in the same lake on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
Mr Whitefield has not been seen since leaving his Loughton home on February 7, 2011.
Binet, 53, of Hanson Drive, Loughton, was arrested on April 1, 2011 and will remain in custody until his appearance at Harlow Magistrates Court tomorrow, April 6, 2011.
District Crown Prosecutor for the CPS Olivia Gooding said: "I can confirm the CPS has today made the decision to charge Douglas Binet with murder. The CPS and police have been working together from the very early stages of the investigation, in order to ensure there is a case which can be put before a jury with a realistic prospect of conviction."
