Two Cambridgeshire men jailed for terrifying armed robbery

Two men have been jailed for carrying out an armed robbery on a Cambridgeshire store.

David Caley was jailed for seven and a half years and Daniel Robertson for seven years at today's sentencing at Peterborough Crown Court. Both men were also sentenced to five years for possession of a firearm to run concurrently.

At an earlier hearing, the men had admitted carrying out the robbery at London Road Stores in Chatteris last October.

Speaking after today's sentencing, CPS Crown Advocate Craig McDougall said: "This was a terrifying situation for the hard working shop owner who since the robbery fears for his life every time he is in his shop. This type of crime can be devastating for anyone subjected to it and the effects can be felt for a long time. Hopefully these sentences can give some sense of justice to the shop owner to help him put the matter behind him.

"I would like to thank Detective Constable Jon Edwards, his team and the Cambridgeshire officers who responded promptly to the shop owner's call for help after the robbery. As well, I would like to thank those members of the public that came forward to assist the police and the shop owner in a time of need. It was the work of the police and their investigation that led to the arrest of Caley and Robertson and together with the prosecution team the conviction that followed."
