R v AMANDA AND PETER LEGG
04/05/2007
At 9:50am on 5th November 2005 Amanda Legg's car (an Alfa Romeo) was recorded speeding on the A35 Holes Bay Road in Poole.
A Notice of Intended Prosecution was sent to Amanda Legg and she nominated her husband Peter Legg as the driver.
In 2006 following further speeding offences, Peter Legg made a complaint to Dorset Safety Camera Partnership requesting an investigation.
The investigation showed that the driver on the 5th November 2005 was a woman who was later identified as Amanda Legg.
On 3 April Amanda and Peter Legg pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court to Perverting the Course of Public Justice for agreeing to falsely identify the car driver on 5th November and accept a fixed penalty notice.
Following Amanda and Peter Leggs sentence Crown Court and Trials Unit Head for Dorset, Roger Hall said: Providing false details to avoid penalty points and possible disqualification is very serious, no matter what the circumstances. This case demonstrates the ramifications for this course of action. I hope that this case will send out a message to the public and deters others in the future.
