Visits to older people's groups

During 2006 Derbyshire CPS staff visited over 20 older people's groups across the county to warn members of the dangers of bogus callers and to provide practical advice and information on how they should respond if they receive unsolicited calls.

While most house callers are genuine, distraction burglars will call unannounced to trick their way into people's homes and steal money or valuables.  Older people can be particularly vulnerable to this type of crime.

Visting Eckington Over 60s ClubDuring their visit staff will give a presentation on the role of the CPS and our work in bringing those involved in distraction burglaries to justice.

This is followed by a specially designed quiz which illustrates how people can protect themselves from bogus callers and drives home the message that older people should always say no to cold callers, always check ID, and report any suspect callers to the police.

Already we have a number of visits lined up for 2007, but if your group is interested in finding out more about the CPS and how to beat the bogus caller please contact Lisa Garnham on 01332 614127.
