Life sentence for teenager who murdered his mother's boyfriend
04/04/2007
Michael Williamson has today been sentenced to life imprisonment at Derby Crown Court for the murder of Adrian Roe. He must serve at least nine years before being eligible for parole.
Mr Roe died on 5 July 2006 following an attack by Michael Williamson in Ilkeston four days earlier.
Speaking after the sentencing, prosecuting lawyer Rebecca Walker from Derbyshire Crown Prosecution Service said:
"Our case was always that this was a deliberate, premeditated attack. After an exchange of words with Mr Roe, Michael Williamson left the scene, armed himself with a piece of fence post, and then returned to inflict the devastating injury that killed Mr Roe.
"The circumstances surrounding this case are particularly tragic for all involved, and the thoughts of everyone on the prosecution team are with them as they begin to come to terms with all that has happened."
