CPS publishes summary of performance information in key areas of business
12/05/2006
People in Derbyshire now have the opportunity to find out more information about how their prosecution service is performing.
From today the Crown Prosecution Service will publish a quarterly summary of performance in key areas of its business on its national website.
Performance across 15 categories of business will be published for each of the 42 CPS Areas, including Derbyshire. These categories include offences brought to justice, ineffective trials and financial management.
Each Area is given a colour coding for each performance subject which indicates the likelihood of their achieving their Area end of year milestones or targets. These colour codes are: green, amber/green, amber/red and red. For some quantative measures, Areas are ranked on their performance compared to other Areas. 1 indicates the top quartile of performers down to 4 for the lowest quartile.
Brian Gunn, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Derbyshire CPS said: "We are a public service, and as such the people of Derbyshire have a right to know how we are performing on their behalf.
"Publishing details of our performance on our website demonstrates our determination to be open and accountable, and to give people as much information as we can about how the criminal justice system operates.
"We are absolutely committed to delivering our business objectives efficiently in order to provide the public with a first class prosecution service. Where we are not performing as well as we would like we have developed specific action plans to address areas of concern. These are now beginning to deliver some positive results, and we are continually looking at ways to further improve our performance."
