Equality and Diversity

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is committed to ensuring equality and diversity across the whole organisation. With far reaching implications Equality and Diversity issues affect all aspects of CPS business, both internal and external, such as:

  • Legal process
  • Provision of legal guidance
  • The experience of being a victim or witness
  • Treatment of employees

Equality and Diversity officers are employed to ensure alignment between business objectives of the CPS and national agendas on equality, diversity and community engagement.

Members of staff within Equality and Diversity are responsible for policy and strategy development and Performance Review to support equalities objectives. This includes championing Equality and Diversity within the CPS, ensuring policy development reflects Equality and Diversity issues and mainstreaming Equality and Diversity within all relevant CPS areas of work.

As a public service a key CPS priority is to engage with the communities across all CPS Areas, increasing transparency and building public confidence in the organisation. The Equality and Diversity team is responsible for Community Engagement policy and strategy and covers both employment and service delivery.

Equality and Diversity Officer

The Equality and Diversity Officer for each CPS Area provides equality, diversity and community engagement advice and support to the Area. They support the delivery of Area business objectives through a mainstreaming approach to Equality and Diversity. Each Area Equality and Diversity officer also undertakes specific pieces of work and projects for the Area to ensure alignment between the Area and National agendas on equality, diversity and community engagement.

Senior Equality and Diversity Officer

Senior Equality and Diversity Officers provide strategic equality, diversity and community engagement advice and support to CPS Areas. They support the delivery of CPS Area business objectives through a mainstreaming approach to equality and diversity, support the Area in undertaking specific pieces of work and projects, and ensure alignment between Area and National agendas on equality, diversity and community engagement.
