Witness Care

Witness Care is an essential aspect of the prosecution process and often central to getting a conviction in court. Witness Care officers work to support the victims and witnesses of crime, providing a single point of contact, needs assessment, information and support. The Crown Prosecution Service plays a pivotal role in the justice system. The CPS exists to ensure that wrongdoers are brought to justice, victims of crime are supported and that people feel safer in their communities and the witness care teams are central to these aims.

Witness Care Officers

As a Witness Care Officer it is your job to reduce ineffective trials, improve public confidence in the Criminal Justice System, increase victim and witness satisfaction and bring more offences to justice by providing an enhanced level of information to victims and witnesses. You will act as a single point of contact for victims and witnesses, conducting a needs based assessment for those required to attend Court and dealing with enquiries and correspondence from victims and witnesses in a professional and courteous manner.

Witness Care Managers

Managers within the Witness Care Units (WCU) focus on enhanced levels of information provision to victims and witnesses, provided through a single point of contact and a needs assessment approach to victim and witness care. You will be responsible for the overall management of the Unit and the day-to-day line management of the witness care officers. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the WCU complies with the delivery of the minimum requirements of the No Witness No Justice project.

Senior Witness Care Unit Managers

As a Senior Witness Care Manager you will be responsible for providing overall management of the multi-agency Witness Care Unit.  The key purpose of your role is to ensure that the Witness Care Units comply with the day-to-day delivery of the minimum requirements of No Witness, No Justice project. You will have supervisory responsibility and day to day line management of four Witness Care Team Leaders and approximately 40 Witness Care Officers.
