  • 30 days allowance after 6 years service

In addition to an annual leave allowance you are entitled to 10.5 Public holidays and privilege days.

Flexible Working

As an employer the CPS recognises that everyone has differing needs at different times throughout their lives. Through flexible working we aim to:-

  • Promote equalities in employment, and improve employment opportunities for those declaring a disability or those with health issues
  • Reduce stress levels and promote employee wellbeing
  • Assist staff in achieving a better work/life balance e.g. childcare responsibilities, care of elderly dependants, furthering of outside interests or voluntary work etc
  • Create greater flexibility in arranging work patterns to meet service needs
  • Improve environmental sustainability through reducing car use and the need to travel
  • Reduce travel and commuting time, thereby reducing travel stress
  • Save on office accommodation costs while improving work/life balance for employees

Flexible working can range from small adjustments to start and finish times or working from different locations through to more significant changes e.g. part-time hours, job sharing compressed hours or home working.  Each case is looked at on its own merits and how it impacts on the business needs and the individual.

Flexible working hours

The Flexible Working Hours (FWH) scheme is a system under which staff are present during the essential part of the day but, subject to management needs, have the scope to vary times of arrival and departure, the length and timing of the lunch break, and the facility to take time off if extra hours are worked. Flexi-time is open to both full and part-time members of staff.

Career breaks

The CPS has a Career break policy where staff can apply for a career break (you would need to fulfil the qualifying criteria and have worked for the CPS for 2 years).

Career breaks can be used for:

  • Domestic responsibilities - caring for dependants, elderly family members or accompanying a partner who is transferring to a new location
  • Alternative work opportunities - to pursue other work opportunities abroad or with another organisation
  • Study
  • Travel

Special leave with pay

Special leave with pay (not normally exceeding 5 days per year) may be granted by your line manager to enable you to deal with short term domestic problems in the following circumstances:-

  • Bereavement
  • Caring for dependants
  • Hospital/doctor/dentist appointments
