Chief Executive
Peter Lewis
Peter Lewis is a solicitor who started his career with the CPS at its inception in 1986. He was Chief Crown Prosecutor for Nottinghamshire from 1999 to 2003, then became Director of Business Development. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer from 15 January 2007. Mr Lewis is the first Chief Executive to be appointed from within the Service.
The Chief Executive is responsible for the administration of the Service - except for the areas of legal advice and casework - and reports to the DPP.
This appointment was created in June 1998, following a recommendation in The Review of The Crown Prosecution Service (known as the Glidewell Report). The report recommended that the post be created to enable the Director of Public Prosecutions to focus on legal matters.
