- General entitlement
- During the period of sponsored Pupillage or Articles, a legal trainee is assigned to a particular CPS Branch office. For travel and subsistence purposes, this Branch office is regarded as the trainee's permanent station, or place of duty. The cost of travelling between home and the permanent station must be met by the trainee.
- For travel to a location other than the permanent station, trainees may claim in the normal way for reimbursement of travel costs actually, reasonably and necessarily incurred in the course of their training. Rail travel will be reimbursed at the standard class rate, and trainees should take advantage of any saver tickets available.
- Day subsistence allowance (DSA) may also be claimed under the normal rules, detailed at Section D.
- Trainees will not normally be expected to travel to a detached duty station which is beyond normal daily travelling distance during the course of their training. However, where exceptionally, an overnight stay is required, trainees should first seek advice from their Area Personnel Office.

Costs will only be reimbursed where the officer has a double housing commitment i.e. A property to maintain at the old home. Reimbursement of temporary accomodation costs will be restricted to the limits of the elsewhere rate of night subsistence allowance.
- Once an internal candidate is designated as a Legal Trainee then they are covered by the normal rules applying to external candidate trainees, detailed at parts 1 to 4 above.
